The 20th Annual Danville Wine Festival has been cancelled.

The Danville City Treasurer’s Office announced today that its office is closed to the public until further notice to ensure the wellness of customers and staff amid the new coronavirus crisis.

Staff will address citizens’ needs by phone during the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Payments for taxes, dog tags, inoperable vehicle decals, etc., can be made by the following methods:

  • USPS mail – send to City Treasurer, P.O. Box 1565, Danville, VA 24543.
  • Via phone (debit/credit card payments). A service charge applies still.
  • Pay by check or money order payable to the City of Danville using the drop box located in the drive-thru area of the Charles H. Harris Financial Service Center.

Receipts will be mailed.

Should there be any questions, please call the office at (434) 799-5140.

The collection and customer service offices at the Charles H. Harris Financial Service Center would be closed to the public until further notice.

Staff will address customer account needs by email or phone and take payments at the drive-thru window and the dropbox. Customers paying by cash must use the drive-thru because cash is not accepted in the dropbox.

Customers also have the options of online payment and payment by mail.

The lobby of the building will remain open during regular working hours to allow customer access to the ATM and credit card kiosk.

As a reminder, the City has suspended utility disconnections for non-payment. Also, the City has suspended the $50 delinquent account charge assessed when a utility bill is more than 35 days past due. Customers are urged to keep their accounts as current as possible during this time to prevent hardships once disconnections resume for non-payment.

Business @ Breakfast: Legislative Breakfast scheduled for April 1st has been cancelled.

Walmart will be opening at 7:00AM and closing at 8:30PM.

Averett is suspending all face-to-face instruction and moving classes online through April 1, at which point they will reassess.

The Lunenburg County Community Concert scheduled for Friday, March 20 has been postponed due to recommendations from the CDC to “consider canceling large work-related meetings or events.”

The Danville Public Library and Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed to the public through Friday, March 27. Parks and Recreation programs during this period are canceled.

The decision to close these facilities and cancel programs was made to limit public gatherings in response to concerns about the spread of the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19. The time period is consistent with Governor Ralph Northam’s order today that all K-12 schools in Virginia be closed. Schools will close from Monday, March 16, through Friday, March 27, at a minimum.

No major recreation events are scheduled in Danville for the next two weeks.

Public Library fees and fines will be delayed until the library reopens. Customers may use the dropbox for returning books.

The Danville YMCA will be closed through at least March 29, 2020.

The Charles H. Harris Financial Service Center will remain open for business as usual. Still, citizens are encouraged to use one of the various payment methods that do not involve face-to-face contact and avoid coming into the financial center if possible.

Customers have the options of online payment, payment by mail, payment at the drive-thru window, and payment at the dropbox (during and after work hours but no cash allowed).

Smokestack Theatre Company presents ‘ART’ at the Danville Museum of Fine Arts & History will be postponed and Improv at 2 Witches Winery & Brewing Company on April 4 has been cancelled.

Monday open mic at Ballad Brewing Company is cancelled until further notice.

The office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney will not be open to the public to accept payments regarding delinquent fines, costs and restitution until 05/01/2020. Payments may still be made online at for Circuit Court and for General District Court. Payments may also be mailed using money order or cashier’s check to Commonwealth Attorney’s Office – Collections, 341 Main Street, Suite 200, Danville, VA 24541.
